Hello Parents and/or Students:
My name is Sheila and I provide private tutoring for Math, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics courses, including Test Preparation for Standardized Tests, e.g. the SAT or ACT. I graduated from the University of California-Irvine where I studied Chemistry due to my strong interest in the discipline. I have more than 10 years of experience teaching students, both one-on-one and in a classroom setting, of all different age groups: elementary school children, to middle and high school students, to college students, to adults returning to school. Since I have several years of experience tutoring students, I am familiar with the best approach to help understand the material and can tailor the sessions to each particular student. Therefore, I know what works best and what does not. I believe motivation, persistence, and good study habits are key to improving academic performance.
I am patient and understand that everyone has different learning abilities. Since I am the only tutor for each student, as opposed to a different tutor each session, I build strong rapport with my students to create an environment where my students can confidently express their thoughts and questions without anxiety; this aids in producing effective academic results.
Teaching and mentoring is a passion of mine, I absolutely love it. I believe that learning can and should be a fulfilling experience. I take great satisfaction when I see my students achieve their full potential. I would love the opportunity to help students gain confidence in their studies and succeed in their courses. My students leave my sessions always feeling more confident and well prepared for their upcoming quiz or exam. Parents and students are very pleased with my teaching methods – I am able to provide references upon request. My ultimate goal is to help students effectively and fully understand the material, not just memorize. I aim to provide a solid grounding in the subject I am teaching, while paying close attention to the needs of the student. I understand the importance of obtaining superior grades – I hope to help you or your student(s) achieve that with dedication and effort.

Qualifications
My credentials include a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of California, Irvine-March 2015. I was part of the UC Irvine Chemistry Department Peer Tutoring program for two years, in which I assisted undergraduate students in their Chemistry courses by holding office hours and providing review sessions for their midterms and finals. Review sessions consisted of me teaching a lecture hall of up to 400+ students, based on course-specific notes and professors’ recommendations. I was granted an Excellence in Tutoring Award from the lead professors of the program, for all the great feedback I was receiving from the students in the courses I was teaching.
I have an extensive knowledge of Mathematics due to taking up to engineering based multivariable calculus. This knowledge allows me to confidently explain math concepts and calculations to my students. I feel that Chemistry and Physics, relies on having a strong Mathematic foundation due to the applied math concepts involved in the courses.
Due to holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, I have been exposed first hand to numerous Chemistry calculations and concepts. I have experience teaching all levels of Chemistry including: general, honors, AP and university level to both high school and undergraduate students. Moreover, due to my educational background, I have taken a plethora of various Chemistry lecture and laboratory courses, as part of my Chemistry curriculum at UC Irvine in the following: General Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, Biophysical Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Computational Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Instrumental Analysis, etc. Furthermore, I break down difficult Chemistry concepts and applied Chemistry calculations, into a simple manner for students to comprehend. I also have been able to enhance my Chemistry knowledge and laboratory techniques through industry work and faculty research, allowing me to incorporate this knowledge into my lessons to not only help students with their Chemistry lecture courses, but also with the laboratory component that is incorporated in the majority of Chemistry courses. Teaching Chemistry is my forte! Chemistry is an essential piece of scientific analysis, so I believe it is vital for students to master basic chemistry concepts. The subject can be challenging, but with effort students will succeed.
